Keukenhof

Keukenhof is the international showcase of Dutch ornamental horticulture, with an emphasis on bulbs. In a period of eight weeks (approximately late March to mid-May), you can see seven million spring-flowering bulbs in Keukenhof. In more than 20 flower shows, 500 flower growers present cut flowers and pot plants.

The history of Keukenhof goes back to the 15th century. Countess Jacoba van Beieren (1401-1436) used the Keukenduin to get vegetables and fruit for the kitchen of Teylingen castle. In 1641, Keukenhof castle was built and the estate grew to cover an area of over 200 hectares. The designers of the Vondelpark redesigned the garden around the castle in 1857. This park, in English landscape style, still forms the basis of Keukenhof.
