Noordwijk is the ideal place for a few days away for any travel group. Families with children can enjoy themselves on the beach, in the swimming pool, in amusement parks such as Duinrell and Linnaeushof and with miniature golf. Nice walk with the dog? The dunes and a large part of the beach are accessible to your four-legged friend. Do you like going out more? It is always fun in the entertainment area ‘De Grent’ and at the beach clubs. Large cities, such as The Hague and Amsterdam are also nearby for a night out. You can catch a movie at theater De Muze. The culture lover is also at the right place here with beautiful museums such as Voorlinden, Naturalis and LAM nearby.
Do you really want to be surprised? Then take a kitesurfing lesson. A real must for sporty people with guts! Or inquire at one of the riding stables about the possibilities of taking a horseback ride through the dunes and on the beach. Noordwijk has it all to offer. For a good overview of the village you can climb the lighthouse between April and September. But if you prefer to discover the bulb region on the ground, rent an e-bike or a two-person electric car with audio tour.
Then delve into the history of, for example, the Jeroenskerk in the village. The Scottish Benedictine monk Jeroen built a chapel in Noordwijk in 847 and did missionary work. In 856 Jeroen van Noordwijk was beheaded by the Normans. In his honor, a Romanesque chapel was built, which became a place of pilgrimage. And did you know that Noordwijk grew into the most important herb center in the Netherlands in the 18th century? The herbs were mainly traded in Amsterdam and used for medicinal applications. After the herb cultivation, flower bulb cultivation emerged in Noordwijk. You can learn more in the Veldzicht museum.
A more recent part of our history is displayed in the Altlantikwall museum, in the bunker that is part of the 5200 kilometer long German defense line that ran from Norway to the south of France.
