For a good overview of the village you can climb the lighthouse between April and September. But if you prefer to discover the bulb region on the ground, rent an e-bike or a two-person electric car with audio tour.
Then delve into the history of, for example, the Jeroenskerk in the village. The Scottish Benedictine monk Jeroen built a chapel in Noordwijk in 847 and did missionary work. In 856 Jeroen van Noordwijk was beheaded by the Normans. In his honor, a Romanesque chapel was built, which became a place of pilgrimage. And did you know that Noordwijk grew into the most important herb center in the Netherlands in the 18th century? The herbs were mainly traded in Amsterdam and used for medicinal applications. After the herb cultivation, flower bulb cultivation emerged in Noordwijk. You can learn more in the Veldzicht museum.
A more recent part of our history is displayed in the Altlantikwall museum, in the bunker that is part of the 5200 kilometer long German defense line that ran from Norway to the south of France.
